The Alternative Cake Smash
Time flies so fast when you have little ones and before you know it that first birthday will be just around the corner! Cake smash photography has been around for such a long time but there are new trends emerging! If you don’t want a belly full of sugar then I have just the thing!
I have such a passion for photography and for photographing little ones at all stages. I have 2 girls age 1 and 3 and they are changing every day! I am always taking them down to my studio to have some fun and capture their crazy personalities (yes, they are crazy just like their mum...). I whip out the confetti, the toys or some silly glasses, put on some music and just have fun! The results are always magical, and they are just being them.
PLAY!
That is the best way to capture personalities. Very few children will give you a natural smile if you just stand them there and say cheeeeese. They will not warm to you and they can get bored very quickly. If you let them play they can be just themselves and smile and grin and just be totally adorable! They key is keeping them a roughly the right area so they are not trying to escape so….
TOYS!
BUT toys are hideous right?… WRONG! I have gathered the most adorable section of natural, white and wooden toys which are so prefect for milestone photoshoots. They are not distracting and just look so stunning in the images. The children love them because they are new to them and they are so curious to see what they are all about.
NO CAKE!?
We don’t always need a real cake to celebrate a little ones birthday… I have plenty of other simple little props that make the shoot extra special, and I am always buying more because I am addicted to buying cute things :). I have a wooden cake, a little vintage car and a growing collection of wooden toys from Dottie Maie. Here are some of my favourites suppliers:
Wooden cake: Eco Toys Estonia
Fabric crown: Etsy - Clara and Amelia
Vintage White car: Indigo Toys
ONE letters: Etsy Baby Little Miracle
Wooden toys: Dotty Maie Toys
Why not give it a go!
